The fort Kales was built by the Venetians in the 13th century AD, to protect the town of Ierapetra from its enemies. In 1508 it was destroyed by an earthquake and the Turkish raids. The damage was not repaired, perhaps because it was very serious and there was no funding.
A living museum of historical memory that is worth seeing by any visitor of Crete that records the suffering of the Greek people during the German Occupation, is the galleries of Platanias. The shelter was built below the church of Agios Dimitrios at Pano Platanias by the requisitioned locals, for the Germans.
Richtis is located around 20km west of Sitia and 45 east of Agios Nikolaos, in the exit of the homonym Gorge of Richtis that starts from the village Exo Mouliana. In order to reach the beach you can follow the paved road starting from Exo Mouliana. Alternatively, you can trek in the lush gorge.
Μια από τις πιο όμορφες και ταυτόχρονα πιο άγνωστες παραλίες της Κρήτης είναι τα Γιαλοπόταμα στην Κεραμιανή Γιαλιά. Το όνομά της (ποτάμι στη θάλασσα) το οφείλει σε ένα μικρό ρυάκι που εκβάλει στη θάλασσα κι έχει νερό μέχρι τις αρχές του καλοκαιριού. Η πρόσβαση στα Γιαλοπόταμα γίνεται με πρόχειρο δρόμο από το ανεμοδαρμένο χωριό Κεραμέ Αγίου Βασιλείου Ρεθύμνου.
Portela Gorge is located at the south of the prefecture of Iraklion; the canyon starts from Hondros village and its exit is in Keratokambos. It is one of the most dangerous canyons in Greece.
Το Αζιλακόδασος βρίσκεται 11 χλμ δυτικά του Βραχασίου και 9 χλμ νότια των Μαλίων, στους πρόποδες του Όρους Σελένα. Η πρόσβαση στο δάσος μπορεί να γίνει με εύκολη πεζοπορία από το Κράσι, ενώ επίσης κοντά στα Μάλια υπάρχει ανηφορικό μονοπάτι που οδηγεί στο δάσος. Επίσης υπάρχει ένα μικρό δίκτυο από χωματόδρομους που οδηγούν στην περιοχή.
Η αρχαία Λισσός, επίνειο της Ελύρου, ήταν κτισμένη σε μια μικρή κοιλάδα ανάμεσα στη Σούγια και την Παλαιόχωρα. Ήκμασε από τα Ελληνιστικά χρόνια έως και τον 9ο αιώνα, όταν καταστράφηκε από τους Σαρακηνούς. Ήταν διάσημη για το Ασκληπιείο της, όπου ασθενείς από όλη την Κρήτη έρχονταν για να θεραπευτούν από τα ιαματικά λουτρά του.
The fort of Intzedin is the only fort on Crete built by the Turks, located on the hill Kalami, 15km east of Chania and has a panoramic view to Souda Gulf. The fortress of Intzedin was built in 1872 by Reouf Pasha, on the same location where in 1646 the first Turks built a tower, chasing away the Venetians. It was the main defense construction of the port and was named "Intzedin" to honor the first born son of the Sultan Abdul Aziz Intzedin.
