Ένα από τα ωραιότερα φαράγγια της Κρήτης είναι το Βρυσί στη βόρεια πλευρά των Λευκών Ορέων, ο ποταμός Βρυσιώτης του οποίου πηγάζει από τις πηγές του Μελινταού και των κοντινών κορυφών και υδρεύει τη Ζούρβα και τους Λάκους.
Fourni is a small lush green hill next to the picturesque Arhanes village, about 12km south of Heraklion. It takes its name after the local homonym preminoan cemetery, next to Knossano Gorge. Fourni can be accessed through Kato Arhanes, where you’ll meet signs leading there.
The Cretan stone marten (scient. Martes foina bunites) is a nice mammal, arboreous, night owl, carnivorous and fruit-eater that lives alone (except for the mating season) in rock fissures, in tree hollows, in raptors’ abandoned nests, in desert underground galleries, in sparse forests, in bushy places and in gorges.
Ο Κουμπές βρίσκεται 2 χλμ δυτικά του κέντρου του Ρεθύμνου και αποτελεί ουσιαστικά τη μόνη παραλία στα δυτικά της πόλης. Έχει υπέροχη θέα στο επιβλητικό φρούριο της Φορτέτσας, που βρίσκεται λίγες εκατοντάδες μέτρα ανατολικότερα. Το όνομα προέρχεται από την Τουρκική λέξη Kubbe που σημαίνει «τρούλος», προφανώς από κάποιο τοπικό κτίριο.
East of the village Platia Peramata you will firstly meet the longest beach of Platia Peramata, called Psili Ammos, which is totally isolated and very beautiful. The beach is not very suitable for camping, as there is no shade from trees. However, at the eastern end there are large white rocks, called Asproharaki, which offer shade to their lucky “occupiers”.
Ο Πλατύς Ποταμός είναι ένας από τους μεγαλύτερους ποταμούς της Κρήτης που τροφοδοτείται από τα νερά του βορειοανατολικού Κέδρου και της Κοιλάδας του Αμαρίου. Οι εκβολές του βρίσκονται στην παραλία της Αγίας Γαλήνης στο Νότιο Ρέθυμνο. Ο Πλατύς Ποταμός ανήκει στους Ποταμούς της Κρήτης που έχουν πολύ νερό και πυκνή βλάστηση. Μάλιστα, κατά μήκος του υπάρχουν πανέμορφα πέτρινα γεφύρια με καμάρες που έκτισαν παλιά οι κάτοικοι της περιοχής για να διασχίζουν το ποτάμι.
Neraidospilios of Astraki is situated about 23 km from Heraklion, near the village Astraki. The cave is located near the majestic river of Astraki, where the gorge, ending in Karteros, starts. Neraidospilios is a small two-storey cave. According to the archaeologist Paul Faure, it has been the temple of Athena Tritogenia, whose surname is derived from the ancient name of river Karteros, that is Triton (Tritogenia means “coming from Triton”). The cave is one of the springs of the aqueduct of Astraki, which still supplies Heraklion city with water, since the early 20th century.
