The bay of Salamia(s) is located 74km south of Heraklion, between Agios Ioannis and Tripiti. There is no road nearby, thus it is one of the most secluded areas of Crete. You can reach it either by boat or by easy walking from Agios Ioannis.
The cave of Vreiko is located about 2km north-east of the village. It is a cave and gulch and the known depth is 25-30 metres. The Entrance is an open and flat place that looks like a threshing floor. In the entrance there are stairs that make the entry and exit to the cave easier. A fig tree has grown at that place and its bouches cover a big gallery which is about 60-70 metres long. At the entry and the end of the gallery there are signs from the Neolithic Era.
The settlement of Drakos (i.e. Dragon) is located close to Limnes (Agios Nikolaos). It is one of the several abandoned villages of the area. The last resident left the Drakos in 1979. It is a model of agricultural village with stone houses with tiles, narrow streets, cisterns for collecting rainwater and scattered threshing floors.
Στο σημείο που τελειώνει ο νομός Ρεθύμνου και ξεκινά ο νομός Χανίων συναντάμε την μεγάλη παραλία του Καβρού. Ο Καβρός στο μεγαλύτερο τμήμα του αποτελεί παραλία ‘αξιοποιημένη’ με ελάχιστα τμήματά της να έχουν μείνει απείραχτα. Σε κάποιο σημαντικό τμήμα που έχει γλιτώσει από τα ξενοδοχεία και τις ταβέρνες συναντάμε ένα εκτεταμένο και πολύ σημαντικό σύστημα από αμμοθίνες, αμμόλοφους όπως τους λέει ο περισσότερος κόσμος.
Το σπήλαιο Δρακόλακκοι ή Δρακουλάκι είναι ένα μεγάλο υπόγειο ποτάμι που βρίσκεται στις νότιες πλαγιές του Όρους Θοδωρής των Λευκών Ορέων, στην πάνω μεριά του φαραγγιού της Αράδαινας. Ουσιαστικά αποτελεί την αρχή ενός από τα βασικά ρέματα που ενώνονται και δημιουργούν την Αράδαινα.
Το Ιερό Κορυφής που ήταν αφιερωμένο στον Ερμή και την Αφροδίτης βρίσκεται στη θέση Κρύα Βρύση κι απέχει 5 χιλιόμετρα βορειοανατολικά της Κάτω Σύμης, όντας ο σημαντικότερος αρχαιολογικός χώρος της επαρχίας Βιάννου. Το ιερό ιδρύθηκε περί το 2.000 π. Χ. και η λατρεία συνεχίστηκε μέχρι τα Ρωμαϊκά χρόνια.
Στην περιοχή υπάρχουν μερικές μικρές παραλίες, όπου μπορείτε να φτάσετε οδηγώντας βόρεια από το χωριό Σέλλες μέσα σε βατό χωματόδρομο. Στη περιοχή δεν θα βρείτε τίποτα άλλο, παρά ελάχιστα σπίτια και αγροκτήματα.
The lighthouse of Gavdos is built a few meters south of the village Ambelos at an altitude of 368m, at the west coastline. Constructed in 1880 by the French Company for Lighthouses and was visible at a distance of 42 miles (the second longest distance in the world since then, after the lighthouse of Tierra del Fuego).
