The Museum of Visual Arts in Heraklion is a private art museum. It was founded in May 2000 by Kostas Schizakis. Its activities include organizing educational seminars and lectures on artistic creation.
On the trail leading from Agios Ioannis to Koudoumas monastery we meet an impressive cave, shaped Δ, in which there is the small church of Saint Anthony. The cave hosts stalagmites and stalactites. One stalactite, has the shape of Saint Anthony, and a pit where there is an icon of St. Anthony. The cave was used as a residence of hermits.
The cave Kamilari is an easily accessible and impressive cave of Psiloritis Mount. It is located just 200m from the 13th km of the old road connecting Heraklion with Rethymnon, near Tylisos, at an altitude of 267m. It has 200m long paths, while its entrance has a width of 10m and a height of 4m.
The Zakros’ Natural History Museum is located at the Polykentro building, lying along the main road that crosses Epanos Zakros village. The Museum is dedicated to the natural environment of the Park. The flora, fauna, and geology of the area is presented through small dioramas (reconstructions of ecosystems), staffed animals, posters and displays of rocks and fossils.
Άγριο κι επιβλητικό φαράγγι, γνωστό κι ως Γεροντζού, το οποίο ξεκινάει από την κοιλάδα της Περβόλας δίπλα στη Μουρνιά Αστερουσίων και καταλήγει στην πανέμορφη παραλία Καμινάκι. Υπάρχει μονοπάτι, λίγο απότομο, που ξεκινάει από την Περβόλα, αλλά μπορεί να περαστεί κι από την κοίτη του με αρκετή προσοχή.
Οι Βατόλακκοι βρίσκονται κοντά στο χωριό Κισσός, 33 χλμ νοτιοανατολικά του Ρεθύμνου, και κοντά στην έξοδο του Κισσανού Φαραγγιού. Το δάσος έχει έκταση 600 στρεμμάτων και αποτελεί έναν σπουδαίο πνεύμονα πρασίνου στην ευρύτερη περιοχή του Κέδρου.
The Venetian fortress of Paliokastro is located 14km west of Heraklion, on the west side of Heraklion Bay. Today, only a part of the walls of the triangular fort remains alive. The fort was built on a big tall rock, near which passes the highway of Heraklion - Chania.
