The area aroung the village Zourva by Chania hosts the most impressive wood of West Crete. The name of it is Paradisos (paradise) and stretches from Pises Gorge and Aliakes. The tree that dominates the area is the cypress tree, the most typical tree in the forests that cover the White Mountains. Through the forest of Paradise comes the old trail that climbs steeply from Zourva to springs of Tromarissa and continues up to the peaks of Madara.
The Gorge of Katsouna, near Vrysses, is believed to be the Xenia Street of Herodotus, according to who the guests of ancient Pergamos arrived through here in order to not have visual contact with the forts of the town. The length of the gorge is about one kilometer and starts from Vrysses to reach the entrance of the ancient city.

Saint Minas is the patron saint and protector of the Grand Castle (Heraklion) and its past combines legend with tradition and the town's history. It was built in 1862, next to the smaller temple of Saint Minas.
Έξω από το χωριό Φρες, μέσα σε μια λαγκαδιά και στην καταπράσινη τοποθεσία «Κούκου» βρίσκεται χτισμένη η Παναγιά των Δύο βράχων. Κάποτε ένας βράχος ξεκόλλησε από το βουνό και κύλησε στην πλαγιά. Πάνω του χτίστηκε η εκκλησία. Ακριβώς δίπλα βρίσκεται ένα άλλος βράχος όπου όλα μαζί δημιούργησαν ένα εντυπωσιακό σύμπλεγμα.
Σύμφωνα με την παράδοση το εκκλησάκι το έκτισε ένας χωρικός από το Βάμο έπειτα από την επίσκεψη της Παναγίας στο όνειρό του, που του υπέδειξε το μέρος που είναι το σπήλαιο και του είπε να πάει ν σκάψει εκεί. Ο χωρικός που ήταν πιστός πήγε και έσκαψε μέσα στο σπήλαιο και βρήκε την εικόνα της Παναγίας.
Το οροπέδιο του Μανικά βρίσκεται στην επαρχία Σφακίων, σε υψόμετρο 720 μέτρων. Σήμερα ο οικισμός Μανικάς, από όπου παίρνει το όνομα του, έχει εγκαταλειφθεί και χρησιμοποιείται από τους βοσκούς της περιοχής. Στο οροπέδιο βρίσκεται το όμορφο εκκλησάκι αφιερωμένο στον Άγιο Μανώλη (εορτ. 21 Αυγούστου).
At the position that is currently the chapel of Agio Pnevma (Holy Spirit) at the summit of Mount Vrysinas (altitude 858m) the archaeologists have identified probably the most important Minoan Peak Sanctuary of West Crete. From this point one can overlook the northern coast and the province of Agios Vasilios.
