From Ziros, the E4 European trail heads northeastwards and soon enters a dirt road that leads to ruined historic settlement Skalia. From Skalia we walk north and east, we pass a small plateau and then descend to Ano Zakros springs.

The Historical and Folklore Museum of Viannos was founded in 1996 at the birthplace of a famous Greek author, John Kondilakis (a part of the museum is dedicated to him).

Στην περιοχή της Κανδάνου οι Οθωμανοί έκτισαν τέσσερις πύργους με πολεμίστρες για να προστατευτούν από τους επαναστάτες των γειτονικών περιοχών. Ίχνη ενός πύργου σώζονται ακόμη και σήμερα πάνω από το χωριό Βαμβακάδες, ενώ οι πύργοι στο Ανισαράκι, στο Νυχτεριανό και στο Κουφαλωτό δε σώζονται. Ο πύργος των Βαμβακάδων ήταν κτισμένος σε υψόμετρο περίπου 1040 μ., όντας ο πύργος με το μεγαλύτερο υψόμετρο στην Κρήτη.

Agia Sophia is an old abandoned monastery located on the plateau of Armenochantrades. The monastery is surrounded by walls and in the center there still stands the church of Hagia Sophia. All around there are the ruins of the monk cells and some renovated buildings.

Η Μονή του Αγίου Νικολάου είναι μικρό μετόχι της μονής Βροντησίου κτισμένο στο όρος Σανίδα πάνω από το χωριό Σκούρβουλα. Το παλιό ερειπωμένο μοναστήρι αναστηλώθηκε εκ βάθρων από τον μοναχό Ιωσήφ Ανδρουλάκη και επαναλειτούργησε το 2014.

На восточной окраине долины Амари были построены две башни, Кулес Ватиакоса и Лохрии. Кулес Ватиакос, построенная на холме к югу от деревни служила двойной цели. Во-первых, она контролировала проходы к Мессаре, а во-вторых, она защищала турецкую деревню Ватиакос, которая являлась турецким центром в регионе.

On the mountainside above the village Mariou at south Rethymnon we meet the cavernous church of Saint Onoufrios. The chapel celebrates on June 12 annualy. A relatively good dirt road that starts at the entrance of the village leads to the church. The small cave is located at the base of a steep vertical limestone rock that is home to many with endemic chasmophytes (plants that live or cracks and rocks). From this point the views of the villages and the bay of Plakias is unique.

A few meters east of Fortetsa settlement in Heraklion city, amid a fertile valley with olive and vineyards, we meet a small 7m high tower overlooking the area to the sea. The tower was not defensive, as it was built during the Second World War by locals and was used as an Electric Power Station.
