The village Skepasti takes its name after the Byzantine church of Panagia Skepasti. There is legend about the Church worth mentioning. Once, pirates landed in the area and captured many girls, which were later sold as slaves to a Turk from Izmir. Among them was the wife of the priest of Skepasti.
The koules (tower) of Kokkinos Pirgos (Red Tower) is located close to Fodele. It is one of the three seaside Turkish towers built at this position. Although looks close, it is very hard to reach the fort due to dense vegetation and wires (for flocks).
Церковь Св. Петра около Врахаси был храмом при маленьком монастыре, который работал здесь в XVII веке, на месте предшествующего храма XIV века. Мы можем разобрать следы стен и водяную мельницу (в районе очень много воды, а потому здесь очень много зелени).
Οι ανεμώνες (Anemone coronaria L) είναι από τα πιο όμορφα λουλούδια που κοσμούν την φύση της Κρήτης. Πρόκειται για ετήσια φυτά που μπορεί να φτάσουν σε ύψος μέχρι και τα 45 εκατοστά και κάνουν ένα μονάχα άνθος ανά άτομο. Το όνομά τους το οφείλουν στον άνεμο που όπως πίστευαν οι αρχαίοι Έλληνες ασκούσε πάνω τους ερωτική επιρροή και τις έκανε να ανθίζουν. Οι Κρητικοί τις περισσότερες φορές τις αποκαλούν παπαρούνες ενώ στην πραγματικότητα παπαρούνες είναι μονάχα οι βρώσιμες κουτσουνάδες (Papaver rhoeas L).
Στον Άγιο Ιωάννη Μυλοπόταμου, 40km νοτιοανατολικά του Ρεθύμνου, βρίσκεται ένα ενετικό οίκημα, «Αρχοντικό», κάποιου Ενετού άρχοντα, που είχε εξισλαμηθεί τα πρώτα χρόνια της Τουρκοκρατίας.
Церковь Агиос Димитриос представляет собой очень особую базилику с четырьмя проходами и куполом над четвертым проходом. Сохранился неф с фреской Св. Дмитрия. Считается, что храм был центром епархии Арио и был построен на месте древнего храма богини Артемиды (Дианы).
A few meters east of Ano Kapetaniana, on the road leading to Agios Ioannis, we meet the large single-room temple of Archangel Michael. While externally it looks like a modern church, inside the visitor will be impressed by the frescoes dating back to the Venetian period. Despite the damage they have suffered by time, this is still a superb specimen of that period. On the walls we also see engravings by various travelers of the era.
The northernmost ground of the island of Crete is the Cape of Spatha in Chania prefecture. This strategic location could not have gone unnoticed by the German occupiers during the Second World War, who installed a large bunker with guns, cannons, buildings, arcades, etc. which still haunt this remote place.
