From the Byzantine monastery still stands the church of Agios Dimitrios (Saint Demetrius) with very old frescoes. In the churchyard there are the remains of the monk cells.
The Tower of St. George was built at the homonym village of Sitia province, which was then called Tourtouli. It was the residence of ordakayasi (Turkish commander) of Sitia, Ibrahim Afentakis or Afentakakis. It was an complete tower with a large courtyard and prisons.
Ανάμεσα στην Επισκοπή και στο Σγουροκεφάλι Πεδιάδος συναντάμε ένα όμορφο παρκάκι με πεύκα, στη μέση του οποίου υπάρχει ο ναός του Αφέντη Χριστού. Ο μικρός μονόχωρος ναός λειτούργησε ως καθολικό μικρής μονής που ήταν μετόχι της Μονής Αγκαράθου.
Ο Άγιος Αντώνιος βρίσκεται στο δυτικό άκρο του Αβδού και είναι μικρός μονόχωρος καμαροσκέπαστος ναός που κτίστηκε τον 13-14ο αιώνα. Ο ναός φέρει τοιχογραφίες των Εμμανουήλ και Ιωάννη Φωκά. Τις παραστάσεις χαρακτηρίζει η έντονη εκφραστικότητα των στάσεων και η μοναδική στην Κρήτη περίπτωση διχρωμίας σε όλη την τοιχογράφηση. Χρησιμοποιείται μόνο το κοκκινωπό-καστανό χρώμα με λίγο γαλάζιο μενεξεδί.
The hawksbill sea turtle (scient. Eretmochelys imbricata) is an endangered sea turtle species found primarily in tropical seas. Some of them (very few) have been met in the open sea south of Crete and in other Mediterranean areas.
One of the mills in Lassithi plateau preserved in quite good condition is the watermill of Plati, located on a slope slightly higher than the village in a wooded location with old oaks, platans and other trees. The watermill in Plati hosts a large stone cistern where water was collected and used later for grinding the grain.
The idyllic suburb of Chania, called Perivolia, till the German Occupation hosted the luxurious villa of Mustafa Naili Pasha, known also as Giritlis (= Cretan), which was destroyed by the Germans in order to use its materials for building their own buildings.
Λίγο έξω από το χωριό Χουδέτσι Πεδιάδος Ηρακλείου και πολύ κοντά στον αρχαιολογικό χώρο του Βαθυπέτρου βρίσκεται ο σπηλαιώδης ναός του Αγίου Παντελεήμονος. Ψηλά στην πλαγιά ενός λόφου σε μία περιοχή που φέρει το εντυπωσιακό όνομα Θεργιά (θηρία στο κρητικό γλωσσικό ιδίωμα) έχει απεριόριστη θέα στις κοιλάδες του βόρειου Ηρακλείου.
