A Byzantine tower was built next to the building complex of the Monastery of St. George in Menies, Cape Spatha, very close to Menies beach. It was built by the monks of the monastery so as to control the sea and pirates.
The temple of Saint Ekaterini (Agia Aikaterini) is located in a short distance from Aghios Nikolaos of Splantzia. It is a two-aisled structure with a front that ends to a gable. The base of the bell-tower can still be seen in the yard. The door-frames are supported by chiseled pseudo-pillars and are crowned with gothic relief arches.
Κάτω από την Ακρόπολη του Σμαρίου όπου πιστεύεται από κάποιους ότι υπήρξε η αρχαία Λύκτος, σε σημείο όπου υπάρχει πηγή νερού, λειτούργησε το μικρό μοναστήρι του Προφήτη Ηλία. Η θέα από το σημείο αυτό στον Σμαριανό κάμπο είναι μοναδική, ενώ εξαιρετικό ενδιαφέρον παρουσιάζουν οι γεωλογικοί σχηματισμοί γύρω από το μοναστήρι. Το ιερό του ναού βρίσκεται στο σημείο όπου αναβλύζει η πηγή που προφανώς υδροδότησε παλαιότερα την αρχαία πόλη και έδωσε ζωή στις καλλιέργειες των κατοίκων σε αυτόν τον αφιλόξενο βραχώδη τόπο.
Ο εντυπωσιακός ναός του Αρχαγγέλου Μιχαήλ (εορτάζει 8 Νοεμβρίου) στην κόψη του φαραγγιού της Αράδαινας είναι τετράστυλος σταυροειδής ναός με θόλο και χρονολογείται στον 14ο αιώνα, που κτίστηκε πάνω σε βασιλική του 5-6ου αιώνα που ανήκε στη πόλη Αραδήν.
Η εκκλησία που δεσπόζει ψηλά στις Αρχάνες είναι ο δίκλιτος ναός του Αγίου Νικολάου. Είναι κτισμένος το 1857 με ένα συνδυασμό τεχνοτροπιών που εμπνέονται από Ενετικά και Οθωμανικά στοιχεία.
The fountain of Yenitsar Aga is located at the beginning of the Avenue Ikarou, below the epigraphy collection and opposite the Archaeological Museum. It was originally embeded outside a beautiful mansion on the corner of the streets Markou Avgeri and Paleologou, which was demolished in 1980.
Very close to Perivolia province, Chania, you will find the deserted and almost unknown monastery of Saint George Harodia. The monastery was built on 12th century by a local rich lord of Chania. The monastery operated as a men’s monastery till the mid of the 20th century, when it was abandoned. Today you will still find the monk cells and the church of Saint George.
The church of St. Onoufrios is located on a hill near village Voulismeni and operated as a temple of a monastery in the 13th century. The church is single-nave vaulted temple that bears 13th-century frescoes with scenes from the Gospel (Resurrection of Lazarus, Entry into Jerusalem and Washbasin, several Saints etc).
