Psili Ammos beach at Vai
(178 votes)

Psili Ammos beach is located near the famous palmbeach Vai, 95km east of Agios Nikolaos and 25km east of Sitia. It can be accessed via a short footpath that starts in Vai and crosses the hill on the east end of Vai. Walking does not exceed 5 minutes and the beach is definitely worth visiting. This small beach is very beautiful, with fine sand and crystal clear water. It is usually empty, thus it is ideal for seclusion and naturism.

The name Psili Ammos means fine sand in Greek and refers to the sand that covers the whole area. Indeed. the beach is formed at the end of a narrow strip of sand. The water has a characteristic turquoise-greenish colour, making this beach one of the nicest secluded beaches on Crete. There are no big trees on the beach, thus you should have an umbrella with you. If you get hungry, don't worry because Vai canteen is in walking distance. The wider area is protected, due to the rare palmforest of Vai, thus there are no many touristic facilities in walking distance (taverns, hotels and rooms).

From Psili Ammos, you can follow the footpath leading south and leading to the beach Maridati after 2 1/2 hours. During the walk, you will meet several tiny coves with some lonely tiny beaches. The first we meet is characterized by amazing rock formations.
