Pezoulia is the estate of grandfather Petros, who lived there all his life since 1919 and he was mainly engaged in livestock farming and agricultural work in order to be able to preserve his 8-member family. Since 2008, the estate was converted into a guest house named Pezoulia, with stone-built villas, modernly equipped and architecturally adapted to the natural environment of the area.
The estate has a restaurant area with food and flavors reminiscent of grandfather's times, with products mainly produced in Pezoulia or the surrounding area of Selakano. Guests can participate in the fruit and vegetable collection, which, depending on the season, are available at the estate (grapes, walnuts, wild herbs, herbs, etc.). They can also participate in traditional cookery workshops, bread making (kneading with a leaven in a wood oven), but also get to know the secrets of cheese making with milk from dad's goats.
In Pezoulia there is a small market, a children's playground, a small football field, a mini basketball court, a pool available for the summer months and an organized camping site with specially constructed wooden houses where camps for children are organized.
The complex of traditional guesthouses Pezoulia is located at the settlement of Selakano, very close to the forest and at an altitude of 930 m. It is the ideal starting point for day hiking trips to the picturesque surroundings of the Dikti mountain range, but also for excursions to the hot south beaches of Crete. Hiking maps of the area's hiking trails are also available for our guests. Moreover, guided tours to Selakano’s canyons and routes can be organized upon request.
There is also a bird watching site in the area, which is appropriately located so that it is actually an essential means of observing wildlife. The flora and fauna of the place is unique. In the area there are bearded vultures and many other bird species. In Selakano there is the largest pine forest in Crete, as well as forest with holm oaks, some of which have been characterized as age-old by the well-known botanist and naturalist Oliver Rackham.
Pezoulia is a dreamed destination of hospitality in the mountainous Crete, with a cool, peaceful summer, but also an astonishing winter landscape.
It is our pleasure to share our paradise with you.
