Listi Spilios is located 7km south of Agios Nikolaos, next to the old road heading to Sitia and Ierapetra. The surrounding area has grown touristically in recent years and there are large and small hotels. The beach is mainly rocky, with sand in parts, and a small nicer beach is formed north of the main beach. In recent years a large hotel unit in the region has made great interventions to the beach and has unfortunately altered completely the rocky character of the coast. A pier has been built to keep sand in place. There are umbrellas, canteen and beach volley courts. If you seek for quiet places, you can go to the west part of the beach, which is surrounded by dense vegetation, due to the fresh water springs in the region.

Listi Spilios means Robber’s Cave in Greek. This odd name has emerged from the distant past: In the Middle Ages, the main road, used by villagers to move to the cities of the island, passed from here. On the west end of the beach there is a small peninsula on which there are some small caves. Robbers were hiding there and robbed the travelers passing through the street.
