Kefali peak at Lithino
(1 Vote)

Kefali peak is located at cape Lithino, 80km southwest of Heraklion, at the tip of Messara gulf and is the westernmost ground of the Asterousia range. From Kefali (altitude 391m) almost vertical cliffs fall in to the sea, causing awe to anyone. It is one of the most spectacular scenery one can meet in Crete, with incredible views to Gavdos and the wild coastline of Asterousia.

To get to Kefali you have to drive along the very bad road heading to Vathi beach and then follow the signs to Kefali. While driving up to the peak you’ll see the rocky coastline of Vathy with the numerous limestone fjords. Over Kefali you will see the ruins of a german military establishment of the 2nd World War, used for controlling the south coasts of Crete. There is also a small stone church dedicated to the Holy Cross (Timios Stavros).
