Agios Nikolaos

Church of Saint Nicholas at Apostoli
(2 votes)

The village Apostoli in the province Amari hosts several churches, the most important of which is dedicated to Saint Nicholas (Agios Nikolaos). The temple is located at the cemetery of the village and is small signle-nave church, dating back from the 14th century. The walls bear frescoes that have suffered severe damage.

It is noteworthy to mention that villages in the mountainous Amari province host a large number of churches dedicated to Saint Nicholas, despite that in Greece he is honored as the patron saint of sailors and fishermen and churches are mostly met by the sea.
