Gallos Gorge
(11 votes)

The beautiful canyon Galliano starts southeast of Gallos and ends at the town of Rethymnon, transfering water from the area of Armeni to the beach of Koumbes. It is 5.5km long and the walk is along a verdant ravine. Unfortunatelly, there are several places where the shepherds have installed wires for limiting herds within their terrotories and the course in the stream is hard.

Near the entrance we meet the old watermill of Saounatsides used till the 20th century, with traces of an old chapel next to it. Some meters south of the mill, another trail leads to the cavernous temple of Saint Anthony.
