Sabionara Gate
(4 votes)

The Gate of the Sand (Sabionara) is located on the northwest side of the bastion Sabionara of the Venetian Walls of Heraklion. It connected the city with a sandy beach, which is now the port of Heraklion.

The exit to the sea was simple and is kept almost intact, while its internal gate is located on Duke Beaufort Street and in 2014 it was restored after many years of efforts. It bears an elegant and elaborate façade, in the style of the gate of Lazaretto.
