The summer of our kids full of playing, action, relief, voices and laughter! The beach and the sea is a very attractive picture to all children, as here they will find the opportunity to play, run, get dirty, feel free, socialize with other children and come close to nature.

Children have an excellent relation with water, from their nature, and nearly always get excited by the sea. This is one of the most fruitful periods in the life of everyone, children and parents, so don’t allow it pass by.

Children, when small (up to 3yrs) need constant supervision, but when they get three or more, they love water games and become more independent. When they grow further and start diving, snorkeling or fishing, their love for sea and the environment grows even more.

To achieve all these and make them easier, it is essential to ensure the existence of conditions with high sense of safety. Thus, it is desired that the beaches meet some specific conditions that will make life easier for parents.

The beaches, ideal for children, is quiet, good to be shallow, wave-sheltered, sandy or at least without rocky bed, close to hotels and restaurants. In Crete, many beaches are ideal for our young friends, the most important of which are presented below.

Beaches of Crete ideal for families

The beaches in south Chania Prefecture, which are considered ideal for family vacations are ,  and , near Paleochora. Also, the shallow and sheltered lagoon of  is ideal for children's safety, while the bay of is a very good choice when they are no westerly winds. In the north coasts, and close to the city of Chania, you can swim in , in  and the sheltered and beautiful , where there is also a playground. Moreover, in Akrotiri Cape, protected are the beaches in ,  and , while on the east, kids can enjoy the calm waters of ,  and the western part of .

The prefecture of Rethymno may not have many beaches, but it has some of the best for children. In  beach, children can play and swim safely, while the nearby beach of  is another perfect choice. However, the most appropriate and safe beach for children is located in , near Rodakino, as it is shallow, flat and very calm. In the north, due to the frequent winds, the choices are limited to the sheltered sandy bays of  and .

In the southern Heraklion prefecture, you can swim in the shallow beach of  and the western beach of . In the plain of Messara, you can swim in  beach in Kokkinos Pirgos, although it is often wavy (less than the rest beaches of the area). In the north, where the waves are often huge, some well-protected beaches are , , the artificial beaches (with piers) in , ,  and , and the west side of  Bay.
