Mountains
Crete is extremely mountainous, and its character is defined by a high mountain range crossing from west to east, formed by three main groups of mountains. These are Dikti Mt, Idi Range and White Mountains. There are several smaller ranges such as Asterousia, Kedros and Thripti.
Ida Range (Psiloritis)
The mountains of Ida, better known as Psiloritis, are located in the center of Crete and cover a large part of Heraklion and Rethymnon Prefectures. Psiloritis offers an amazing experience to those who try to know it better, and there you can see some of the most impressive landscapes of wild beauty. Deep caves, karstic formations, deep gorges, small plateaus, pine and oak woods, villages on the edge of the cliff, bare alpine zones: all that make up the unique scenery Psiloritis.

White Mountains (Lefka Ori)
The White Mountains (Lefka Ori) indicate the brutal face of Crete, being an area that even people avoid inhabiting. Many high bare peaks, impressive lush gorges and canyons, small plateaus and dangerous caves compose the form of the place, while forests of pine, cypress, oak and chestnut trees surround the mountains.

Dikti Range
The imposing mountains of Dikte cover a large part of the eastern Crete, being the third largest massif on the island. Its center hosts the fertile Lassithi Plateau and the cave where ancient Greeks worshiped the birth of Zeus. Unexplored in its largest part, Dikti plateaus, canyons and amazing forests are some of the unexpected attractions which will surprise you.

Sitia Mountains
Sitia Mountains are the easternmost mountain range of Crete. It is actually divided into two separate ranges, the Mountains of Thripti (Aori) in the west and the mountains of Zakros in the east. The main difference between them is that the mountains of Thripti are covered by a beautiful pine forest, while the mountains of Zakros are bare and rocky.

Asterousia Mountains

The southernmost mountainous range of Greece, Asterousia, offers to its visitors some unsurpassed wild landscapes. It is one of the driest and most inaccessible places of Crete, carved by numerous canyons that exit in secluded beaches and vertical cliffs that fall violently in the blue waters of the Libyan Sea.

Jiouchtas Mount

Jiouchtas was a sacred mountain for the Minoans, mainly because of its humanlike looking and because of being the first mountain visible from the sea. Small in size, it has a vertical bare cliffs, home to important bird populations.

Kedros Mount

Mount Kedros is located southwest of Psiloritis Range, with the valley of Amari shaped between them. The highest peak reaches 1777m. From afar it seems to have a conical shape (kentri), after which it takes its name.
