Useful Information
By air
There are two international airports in Heraklion and Chania connecting Crete, with most of the Greek islands and numerous European destinations with scheduled and charter flights. The flight from Athens to Heraklion lasts 40 minutes while Athens to Chania is 35 minutes by air. Moreover, there is a smaller airport in Sitia, serving mostly domestic flights.
By boat
The major Cretan ports- Chania, Rethymnon, Heraklion, Aghios Nikolaos and Sitia- offer daily departures to Piraeus - Athens. There also departures for the Aegean islands and Salonica. The trip from Crete to Piraeus lasts between 6 and 10 hours.
The road network
There is a dense network of high standards in Crete. You can use the regular service with local and suburban buses to travel within a city or to villages throughout Crete. You can also use a taxi, hire a car or motorbike that you can find anywhere on the island.
