Kaminaki Beach

Kaminaki beach, Tris Ekklisies, Heraklion, CreteKaminaki Beach is located 58km south of Heraklion, in the southeastern outskirts of Asterousia Mountains. The surrounding mountains form a purely Cretan landscape, with inaccessible gorges, bare rocks, steep cliffs and remote beaches accessible only on boat. The beach of Kaminaki is formed at the exit of the wild Perivoliano Gorge.

Access to the beach is possible mainly through sea, as the gorge is very rugged and the beach is too far from the nearest road. The nearest harbor is located 3km western, in Treis Ekklisies. The beach of Kaminaki is pebbly and is ideal for seclusion and fishing. Here, you will usually find (if anyone) residents of Treis Ekklisies, “strolling” with their boats. 400m on the west, you will find the rugged beach in Agio Pnevma location, but it's not as beautiful as Kaminaki.

On the other side, 700m east of Kaminaki, you will meet a  beach with its amazing turquoise water color and a perfect Δ shaped sea cave close to it. The beach is formed at the hug of Alykevra bay, at position Sfakidia, and is well protected by Alykapounda Cape. If you head west and overcome Alykapounda Cape, you will meet the area of Alykevra. There is a small rocky bay where a small spring with fresh water is sited. Here, the local shepherds used to lead their flocks in order to meet their thirst. It was also easy to catch them here, as there are no other water springs in the area. There is only one beach in Alykevra and it is formed at the exit of a very narrow canyon at position Prikovlyhada. The tiny pebble beach of Prikovlyhada is only 1.5m wide, but it's really amazing as the walls of the canyon can protect you from the sun. There are some amazing caves west of the beach.
