Grammenos beach
The peninsula of Grammeno(s) is located 85km south of Chania and 5km east of Paleochora, on the road connecting Paleochora with Koudoura. Koudoura is a warm area with thousands greenhouses, where most citizens of the area work.
Alonaki, Votsalo or Gialos is a lovely beach with fine and coarse pebbles and crystal clear sea, which starts from the east part of the peninsula and extends to the east. The beach is not protected from the waves and has an overall length of 500m. Umbrellas are provided in it's west part, while the east part of the beach is the most quiet. On the other side of the peninsula, on the west, there is one amazing bay of Grammeno. The sandy cove is well protected and looks west.
There is an organized camping in Grammeno. There are also a few rooms and restaurants with excellent food around. If you do not have car, you can reach Paleochora from Chania by bus and then get a taxi.
Grammeno peninsula hosts an important colony of cedar-like trees (juniper trees). You can find shade under these trees, but special attention is required because cedars are very fragile and require respect. Under no circumstances, should someone break branches, considering that they grow only 1cm a year. So it is suggested to use the umbrellas provided on the beach and to avoid contact with the trees.
