Filaki beach
Beach Filaki (meaning "Prison") is located 3km east of Chora Sfakia and 75km south of Chania. Located close to the only hotel exclusively for nudists in Crete, called "Vritomartis, Filaki and the adjacent beaches of Ammoudi are mainly occupied by nudists.
These beaches are actually the only "official" nudism-friendly beaches on Crete. There is a taverna which is almost totally nude, and many of the visitors walk to the beach and all way back to their cars at the parking lot before dressing. You can't get much more naturist-friendly than this.
Plakakia fjordsThe beach of Filaki is pebbly and rocky in places and not open to the winds. It is completely isolated, despite the fact that access by car or walking from the nearby Sfakia is easy. On the beach there are no accommodation services, water sports or lifeguards, but there are sunbeds and a small bar - canteen.
If you head east of Fylaki, you will soon (100m only) reach the exit of the Sfakiano Gorge, with a nice pebbly beach formed. The area is called Plakakia and hosts some of the most spectacular beaches in Crete, formed on small narrow fjords. Indeed, some of them are formed inside small caves! There is a tricky dirt road leading close to the beach, so check the map.
Filaki can be reached by car from Chora Sfakion (or on foot), by driving eastern and taking the road that you'll meet at the left of the entrance to the hotel Vritomartis. In Sfakia you can find many options for accommodation and food, and also there is bus service to Chania. Also, ships leave from the local port for the exotic island of Gavdos, for Loutro, Agia Roumeli, Sougia and Paleochora.
